Workshop: Communication in the Palm of Your Hand: Short-Form Video Production and Editing
Learn to create high-impact short videos using only your smartphone! In this hands-on workshop, you will discover how to plan, record, and edit audiovisual content for social media platforms like Instagram Reels. The goal is to empower the UFG academic community to share research projects, report on outreach activities, and create more dynamic teaching materials , turning the smartphone into a powerful communication tool. No prior experience is necessary.
In the digital age, short videos have become a primary form of communication and engagement on social media. For the academic community, mastering this language is a unique opportunity to democratize science, disseminate research, and reach a broader audience.
This workshop is designed to be entirely practical ("learning by doing") and will empower you to use the resource you already have in your pocket—your smartphone—to produce professional-quality audiovisual content.
Main Objective
To empower participants to plan, record, and edit high-quality short videos for Instagram, using only a smartphone as a production tool.
What will you learn?
Planning and Scripting: How to structure your ideas with a simplified script, and how to manage framing, lighting, and audio capture using your phone's resources.
Recording Techniques: Practical tips to ensure stability and high image quality in your videos.
Professional Editing on Your Phone: How to use a free and intuitive editing app (e.g., CapCut) to make cuts, add transitions, insert captions, use soundtracks, and perform color adjustments.
Publishing and Engagement: Best practices for posting your videos on Instagram, including formats, the use of hashtags, and engagement strategies to maximize your content's visibility.
How will it work?
The workshop is divided into three moments to ensure a complete learning experience:
Theoretical Foundation: A presentation of key concepts, analysis of practical examples, and an introduction to the editing application.
Guided Practice: A hands-on session where participants will be guided step-by-step through the recording and editing process.
Creation and Feedback: Participants will have time to develop their own micro-video project (30 to 60 seconds) and will have the opportunity to share their results for constructive feedback.
